August 18th was a very special day not only for John and Sam but it was also the wedding day of Dustin and Cheyenne Linstrom. Sam was invited to the wedding by her friend, Mela Cosme. After the ceremony John, the best man, brazenly approached Sam and asked for her number. An initial dismissal turned into a night filled with fun, laughter and dancing that neither of them will ever forget.
John, the early bird got up to prepare for the day to come. It was planned a week prior that they were going to go on a hike to the “Northern Needles”. Sam finally woke up and got ready for the hike but was caught off guard by John’s abnormal amount of excitement and urgency. Of course, Sam took her time and then they set off. The last portion of the hike was off trail. Off trail is John’s bread and butter but, as some of you may know, poison ivy is everywhere this time of year. So they tredges through the tall grass, bushes, and downed trees up the hill and to the top of the needles. The very top had a plateau with the most amazing view of the western side of the black hills. They spent many minutes up there, John, building up courage and Sam, worried about the dogs sitting down at a lower portion of the rock formation. Before they decided to go back down they spent many minutes at the edge near the drop off. As Sam turned to walk away John grabbed her hand, got down on one knee, and asked her to marry him. Both were elated and of course she said yes. Upon return they both attempted to wash off any of the poison ivy that got on them during the hike. Sam was successful, John was not. All was worth it because now they embark on their forever journey together and look forward to the celebration of a lifetime.
