When Should I Book My Flight?

The best time to book isn't perfectly predictable; however, based on analyzing 5 years of airfare data from Google Flights, the best flight prices to Italy from the US typically emerge 90 days to 179 days prior to travel -- with the best deals popping up around 137 days beforehand. According to this data, you should have your tickets booked no later than March. But these are all just averages. The reality is that flight prices are unpredictable and constantly changing. Our advice: A. Don't wait until the last minute B. Book flights 3-6 months in advance

Flight

Florence Peretola (FLR)

Florence International Airport, FLR- Florence Peretola Airport is about a 1 hr 15 minute drive to Lucca. There is a direct train to Lucca as well. Most flight options to Florence require an international connection so keep in mind that customs and immigration are usually required at the connecting international airport (meaning you have to locate, re-check your luggage through customs, and clear immigration before boarding your next flight) therefore, we recommend giving yourself a minimum layover of 2-3 hours.

Flight

Rome (FCO)

Rome Fiumicino (FCO), also known as Leonardo da Vinci Airport, is likely the most economical airport to fly into from the US. Rome is about 3 hour 30 min by car or 3 hour by train to Lucca.

Train

Trenitalia

We recommend taking advantage of the train system in Italy. There are trains that connect from Milan or Rome through Florence directly into Lucca. Renting a car is not at all necessary if you utilize the train systems. If you stay within the city walls of Lucca, everything is walkable, and the Venue is only 17 min taxi drive from the city. If you fly into Florence, you may take the train from Firenze Santa Maria Novella to Lucca. The travel time by train is approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes. Trains in Italy are very different from the trains in the United States. Trains in Italy have assigned seating and beverages available for purchase. It’s better to purchase your tickets online ahead of your trip to ensure availability on your desired train.
