Things To Do

Tobacco Road Golf Club

Tobacco Road Golf Club

442 Tobacco Road, Sanford, NC 27332

Tobacco Road Golf Club was built on land tended by the weather-worn hands of tobacco farmers, later shaped and moved through mining and sand excavation before finally being crafted and molded by an artist’s imagination and the revolutionary eye of the late Mike Strantz. When Tobacco Road was little more than a walking path through an expended sand quarry, Strantz said he “knew immediately it could be something not only spectacular, but also unique.” Stay and Play: Discover the iconic & historic cabin just behind the legendary 14th hole at Tobacco Road, fully renovated and customized for the ultimate foray into the Sandhills of North Carolina.

Temple Theatre

Temple Theatre

120 Carthage Street, Sanford, NC 27330

Built in 1925 as a Vaudeville house, Temple Theatre stands today as a monument to Sanford’s impressive artistic footprint. Almost 100 years ago, the theatre was a hotspot for New York-based theatre troupes passing through on their way to Florida, thanks in large part to its convenient location minutes away from the railroad station. As the railroad boom subsided and time passed, the theatre transformed to accommodate the needs of the area, converting to a movie theatre, a furniture store and a men’s clothing outlet before eventually shuttering its windows in 1965. In 1981, the son of the theatre’s original owner led the Sanford community in restoration efforts. The Temple Theatre opened its doors once again. Now, 40 years later, Temple Theatre, Central Carolina’s Center for the Performing Arts, provides professional, high-quality productions year-round, numerous youth opportunities and a myriad of special events
