And They Were Roommates...

The Bride's Point of View

Logan and I met at flight school. We were living in an apartment with four other roommates, so finding moments alone was rare. But even with the chaos of everyday life, we always found ways to make time for each other—whether it was staying up until 6 a.m. watching movies or taking a two-hour detour to get ice cream for everyone, even though the shop was only five minutes away. It didn’t take long for us to realize our feelings for each other were mutual, but I wasn’t comfortable starting a relationship during training. Logan respected my decision and never pushed, yet he found subtle ways to show how much he cared. He made small but thoughtful gestures—like cooking dinner after a long day of flying, going to the gym at the same time as me, or making my morning coffee. One of the most memorable moments was when I had a particularly rough day, and Logan surprised me with Nesquik chocolate milk and doughnuts. The gesture was simple, but it was special to me. Logan had remembered a small detail I had mentioned in passing. My dad used to purchase those same treats for me as a kid so it was nostalgic for me. As we continued to share these small moments together, I realized I didn’t want to miss the chance to see where this could go. Fast forward to today, and we still make an effort to cherish every moment we can spend together. Looking back, I’m grateful we took the risk of pursuing each other, even though the timing didn’t seem ideal. Now, I get to spend my life sharing countless more moments with my best friend. And that's how I met my future husband—through shared moments, support, and a little bit of chocolate.

And They Were Roommates...

The Groom's Point of View

Courtney and I first met in flight school. She was the first person I met when we arrived at our apartment. I still remember what outfit she was wearing to this day. And yes, we have technically lived together since the very beginning, but there's no better way to get to know someone. We had 4 other roommates, so this wasn't necessarily an intimate setting, but a great way for us to become close. Neither of us were looking for a relationship at the time, and were both very adamant about not getting involved in one. Our main focus was to be flight school and nothing else. All work, no play. However, after getting to know Courtney and becoming closer with her, deeper feelings began to develop. Over the course of the next few days, I worked up the courage to confess my feelings for her, to which I was promptly (and rather swiftly) turned down. She was sticking to her guns; she wanted to focus on flight school, not a relationship. I chose to respect the boundaries she set, and we continued our friendship as normal. I found ways to still show her I cared, and that I was interested, but never tried to push the boundaries. I knew deep down, the key to a woman's heart was chocolate, and you can read up above that this fact rings true! After spending more time together, some Swiss Rolls, and getting to know one another on a deeper level, we decided this relationship was worth pursuing. It's not that the feeling wasn't mutual, but the timing was far from perfect. At least in our heads. Despite that fact, we both decided to trust our intuition and see where this relationship would go. Moments alone were hard to come by in an apartment with 4 other roomates. We did our best to savor the small moments that helped cement our feelings for one another. I am incredibly grateful we decided to take the leap and trust our intuition. I wouldn't trade what we have for anything, even chocolate donuts and Nesquik. We have been each other's biggest fan, supporter, and friend throughout all the trials and tribulations that life can bring. While we are still both early on in our lives and our careers, we are excited to see what the future holds. Life is a gift, but what a blessing it is to spend it with someone you love with all of your heart.
