Logan’s long time manager at Ultima Thule. Ellie and Logan met at providence hospital in Anchorage. All the way back in ‘95. Ellie still remembers the encounter as rather traumatic. But things slowly got better from there. During her first career as a professional dog musher (no that is not a joke) she always made space for Logan to have a roll in her enterprise, usually as a “puppy specialist”. Later they traveled the world together and Ellie helped Logan navigate her first ever hangover in Morocco. Fun fact: About 9 years ago when Logan was kind of unsure of her future with Jay, Ellie counseled her “you’re 18, just wait 10 years and then marry him. He’s perfect.” Turns out big sister knows best.
Sara Smalls

The younger girl by a measly 2.5 years, Logan never let that stop her from leading Sara into all sorts of questionable escapades. When Sara had chicken pox at 6, Logan was quick to tell her it was going to be ok and that “I remember when I was your age and had that”. But the truth is Logan was always trying to be just like her gregarious and kind cousin. She went to every single one of 7th grade Sara’s performances of Pirates of Penzance and could recite the lines of the Phantom of the opera better than Gerald Butler. All to get a little closer to the shining star that is Sara. They share a deep love of vocabulary, waist deep powder, gross blood and guts stuff and wearing costumes for any event ever. Fun fact: though she says that she is taller than Logan, it is in fact, a ruse. She has very thick hair and that doesn’t count.
Hannah Anderson

Referred to in reverence as, Lil Cappy. The little cousin that quickly outpaced Logan in coolness and height. She has come a long way since leading the basement rock band on her roller skates. Though Logan showed promise on Hannah’s Costco drum set, Hannah is actually a musical prodigy. Penning smash hits like “even robots can be obese” and “bread bread. getchu bread”. Now living the skiers dream of being self employed and living approximately 8 feet from the base of Alyeska, Logan spends as much time sleeping on her floor as possible. Fun Fact: Hannah and Logan once went on a couples vacation to Costa Rica and had more fun on their dates than the other couples.
Tessa Bay

Being homeschooled in the middle of nowhere forces you to be best friends with whoever your parents will fly you over to play with. There ain’t no friend like a homeschool friend. Tessa and Logan shared a twin bed for multiple summers, used “going to the outhouse” as a way to sneak out of the house and see boys, and discovered that gummy bear vitamins are not the same as gummy bears. Miraculously their friendship stayed the course through wilderness ragamuffins to adulthood. Which is amazing, because homeschoolers are usually really weird. You can tell how much Logan loves Tessa because she goes to visit her in Miami every year and Logan hates Miami. Fun Fact: this woman will bring a 15 step skincare routine into the deepest backcountry and wash her face in the best puddle she can find every-night. The devil works hard but Teebs works harder.
Dax Lauwers
Best Man
Dax and Jay met in the summer of 2007 while commercial fishing in Naknek, AK. Over the years Jay prided himself in being one of Dax’s main hockey groupies, following him along his career. In 2015 Dax started commercial fishing with Jay in Naknek and has been his main man on the skiff. His hockey background comes in handy when it’s the middle of the night and a drift boat is headed straight for the net. Just put him in the bow of the skiff and head straight for the boat. He won’t be able to explain his actions other than, “sorry man I blacked out,” but the boat will be going the other direction. If you ever need a hype man for an adventure, its Dax. He’s always up for a good time.
Ryan Hanley

Ryan and Jay met back on June 21st, 2007 in Naknek, AK while commercial fishing for the Browns and Taylors. After an initial awkward meeting of trying to figure each other out, the two became close friends that first night after pulling an all nighter on the boat. Ryan and Jay have shared many memories over the years, but most of them revolve around fishing. Including a rough day that forced them to say, “I love you man,” because they didn’t know if they were going to make it. Ryan still comes back to Alaska every summer to help Jay run set net sites in Naknek. Jay is very thankful to his wife and daughters for letting him borrow Ryan for four weeks a year.
Robert Monfore

Robert and Jay officially met in the summer of 2008 while commercial fishing in Naknek, AK. The two previously knew of each other as hockey rivals. The friendship was a welcome sight for Jay because he knew it would be a lot easier being friends than trying to push that chin around on the ice. Over the years Robert has joined Jay in Naknek to fish when he is available. Whenever he is back he’s sure to remind everyone that the Deckboss is here. Currently Robert is a C-17 pilot in the Alaska Guard, but hasn’t yet offered to take the boys for a rip.
Donald C. Martin

Don and Jay met in the fall of 2013 while guiding for Ultima Thule. After a long guiding season the two formed Team Mountain Goat while packing for a Swedish reality tv show. An exclusive group in which membership has to be earned not given. Over the years Don and Jay have shared many memories together on the mountain and during trade show circuits. Some include killing Booners on the same day and lengthy Cops marathons in between shows. Don has aways been Jay’s biggest example of how to have passion for what you do and will always be his favorite “Guide of the Year.”
Neil Gotchall

Neil and Jay first met back in 2004 while playing hockey together for the Jr Aces. The two rekindled their relationship years later through mutual friends Ryan and Dax. Neil is always one that you can count on if you need help with something or want to make sure things aren’t too serious. Neil was finally able to join Jay and the rest of the guys for a commercial fishing season in Naknek back in 2017. It was a welcome sight for all because Neil was finally able to see what more than one fish at a time coming into a boat looks like. Unfortunately Neil will be unable to attend the wedding because he will be deployed flying C-130s overseas.
