It was the second day of freshman year at the Cornell orientation week barbecue. Logan was sitting with some track teammates, talking and joking as they ate their meals. Edi was strolling through the quad with her new suite mates, looking for a place to sit. As Logan looked up from his sloppy pulled pork sandwich, he saw what might have been the most beautiful girl he’s ever laid eyes on. She was tall, tan, and athletic with a smile so bright it would make the Sun jealous. Edi on the other hand was not wearing her contacts or glasses (as she often does), and therefore saw nothing. As Logan’s jaw dropped, his friends quickly noticed what he had been starring at. Five other jaws dropped soon after. Eager to impress his new teammates, Logan insisted that he would get the girls to come sit with them. With a gentle smile and friendly wave, Logan called out “Hey guys! Looks like you need a place to sit. Do you want to come sit with us?” Edi turned to face the shouting figure, squinted to make out the silhouette as best she could, and responded with a sharp and definitive “No.” She then turned and walked away as the group of girls followed. Logan’s hopes and dreams were shattered, and his hilarious teammates ensured he would not forget it. Edi was now in the process of finding another table that did not have a stupid group of boys already seated, when her roommate turned to ask “So why did you turn those guys down? They were cute!” To which Edi responded “Oh… I couldn’t really see them and honestly didn’t want to bother.” Reluctantly, her friends brought her back to the group of cute boys and asked to share the table. Logan was so surprised he nearly choked on his sandwich. Edi sat down next to Logan and they began to talk. Seven years later, they were engaged.
