It all started one sunny Sunday in September 2017. Emma had recently moved to the great city of Houston and was visiting Logan's church. She decided to look into attending one of the church's "city groups," which happened to be the young adults small group that Logan was a part of. Logan introduced himself and quickly noticed how beautiful Emma was. Weeks passed and Logan began to notice Emma in small group. However, he wasn't really interested in dating anyone at the time. It appears that God had other plans because two guys approached Logan on two separate occasions, asking him, "Have you considered asking Emma Gorman on a date?" After these encounters, Logan came to the conclusion that he was being foolish in not asking Emma out. On the night of October 31 (Reformation Day, Halloween, Game 6 of the World Series), the city group had a watch party for the Astros baseball game. Logan decided to go to Minute Maid Park for the Houston watch party and then after a few innings go to the city group watch party, hoping Emma would be there. At the bottom of the fourth, Logan left Minute Maid, ran to his car and drove as fast as he could to the city group party. Sadly, Emma was not there. Disappointed, he sat down and continued watching the game. Just a few innings later, the door opened and Emma walked in. Heart pounding, Logan continued to watch the Astros, trying to come up with a way of asking her out. After the game, Logan began to walk (extremely slowly) to his car, debating whether he should turn around and ask out Emma, who was walking (much faster) behind him. Due to his slowness, she walked around to his side. He then struck up a conversation with her, walked to her car, and asked her on a date. The Astros didn’t win that night, but something better happened: God mercifully brought two sinners together to eventually join lives as husband and wife for his glory. And also in His great providence, the Astros went on to become World Series Champions the next day.
We started dating and quickly discovered that God knew what he was doing. Over many walks through the park and visits to breweries, our attraction to each other deepened. We soon realized that we had many similar values and interests and our interest in each other soared. Over the Christmas holiday in 2017, Logan had the opportunity to spend four days with the Gorman family (and bury their neighbor's guinea pig). Some of our favorite things to do together are walking in parks, going to breweries (we first said "I love you" at a brewery!) and reading theology books. One of our favorite dates was a visit to Lanier Theological Library, a privately-owned, beautiful library in northwest Houston. While we were there, Emma said, "This is my favorite place ever!" We really enjoyed looking at the books and the beautiful building. On May 26, 2018, Logan proposed at our favorite park under a grove of trees, which is Emma's favorite place in Houston.
Emma and I are getting married by the sheer faithfulness and love of our Savior and King, Jesus Christ. He has brought us together and he has kept us together since we've started dating. A mutual love for the King of Kings has been an anchor for our relationship and our only hope for a lasting marriage. We truly love him and want nothing more than to serve him and worship him for the rest of our lives.
