We ‘met’ back in college, when Cory was considered the ‘help’ at Zoe’s sorority house at the University of Michigan. This was Cory’s first foray into cooking Zoe food as the house Sous Chef (Zoe argues his title was ‘busboy’). Though neither remembers ever speaking to the other, this dynamic laid the foundation for their real ‘meet-cute’ 7 years later. It was a sweltering July day in New York, when Zoe, new to the big city, was looking for office space for her budding clean-energy start-up. As chance would have it, Zoe sweatily stumbled into the WeWork building which Cory, at the time, managed. Quickly realizing that Zoe was a ‘hot’ prospect, Cory received a slack message from his Sales Associate recommending that Cory, his single, handsome boss, was best qualified for this particular sale. At the conclusion of said tour, Cory, reverting back to his sous chef days, felt obligated to feed Zoe before she left and promised her a free yogurt provided by one of the building’s tenants. Very contradictory to her nature, Zoe forgot the yogurt, compelling Cory to (very questionably) retrieve her phone number from the WeWork CRM system, texting her to come back for the yogurts. Zoe, never one to give up free food, promptly rode the elevator back up to collect her treat. It was with this number that Cory attempted to complete two tasks. The first, to sell Zoe on an office space for her company in which he failed miserably, casting doubt on his general Sales prowess. The second (seeing this had led to moderate success thus far), to convince Zoe to receive more free food and drinks via a date with Cory. In this, Cory was more successful, and after their first date at Cafe Dante went swimmingly, Zoe has since agreed to let Cory be her forever ‘head’ chef, a promotion which Cory is particularly excited about.
