Matt had always wanted to take me to one of his favorite little cities, Greenville, SC. We decided to take advantage of our spring break and make the drive up for a long weekend. The night we arrived, Matt suggested we go to bed pretty early because he had a surprise in the morning and we had to leave the house by 6am! He loves planning surprises and is such a romantic so I had a feeling we might be watching the sunrise somewhere. The next morning we woke up and headed out into the dark. We drove through long winding roads until finally we reached a parking lot with a man standing guard. He nodded at Matt and we continued on until we reached Symmes Chapel, also known as "Pretty Place." We had seen this beautiful chapel in pictures and always talked about visiting one day, but I had completely forgotten that it was close to Greenville! We went in to watch the sunrise and it truly took my breath away. Just as the sun was coming up, Matt dropped to one knee and asked me to marry him. It was the most romantic, thoughtful, breathtaking proposal I could have ever imagined. Matt knew that I didn't like the idea of getting engaged in a public place with strangers around, so he had rented the chapel out to ensure that we would be the only ones there. We popped champagne (yes, at 7am!) and continued to celebrate the rest of the weekend there!
