Tony and Laura met on Hinge, the dating app meant to be deleted. After being introduced to Hinge by friends, they both decided to give a try. In trying to write the perfect message, Laura's profile disappeared from Tony's matches, and he swiped left on every profile until hers popped back up. No one was living up to her. Lucky for him, it finally did. Determined to not lose her again, he messaged her "You should be proud of both of your accomplishments" (in response to one of the questions she'd answered), and she responded. They talked for a while, had a phone date, then met up in person for breakfast at Cracker Barrel for their first date. After an awkward side hug, they went their separate ways. She was convinced he wasn't interested. Little did Laura know, he got in his truck, called his best friend, and told him he'd just had breakfast with 'the one'. Fast forward, Laura and Tony have gone on many adventures and cannot wait to go on more... all because he swiped right.
Tony originally received the ring in January 2021 and carried it around just about everywhere he and Laura went. It made a few different trips up to the mountains and even a trek to Texas and back, but he just couldn't find a time that felt right. In late March 2021, he had a friend of his from college invite them to go on vacation with them down the beach in Florida that June. Tony knew right then that this vacation would provide the best setting for him to finally ask the most important question of his life. When it finally came time for the trip, Tony let his friends in on his plans, and they decided the best time for him to do it would be during the group pictures that they normally take, but pictures wouldn't be until the last evening they'd be there. Tony was certain Laura was expecting him to ask her to marry him while on the trip, and Tony was sure she was getting discouraged as the week went on, and he still hadn't asked. That day was probably the longest day of his life. All of their friends were down at the beach while they stayed up in the room. Tony had a virtual meeting for work, and Laura had a Zoom call for a class she was taking. As the time was finally coming for Laura and Tony to start heading to the beach for pictures, a few of the friends decided it would be better if they all ate dinner first and proceeded to start cooking. Tony still doesn't know that he actually ate much that night for dinner, as his nerves had his stomach in knots. With everyone finally ready and headed down at the beach and a storm starting to roll in, Ken had all the women on the trip line up facing the ocean with backs to Ken. While they were turned away, Tony got behind Laura and dropped to one knee to surprise her. After she turned around, between her crying and him having "sand in his eyes", he took second to finally ask: "Laura, will you marry me?" Tony jokes that Laura, to this day, still hasn't officially said yes.
