Michael and Eva met through a mutual friend in the first semester of their freshman year at NC State. They clicked immediately, and though Michael was interested in Eva early on, they remained as friends running in different circles. Their contact was sporadic, and while they stayed in touch mostly through Michael's occasional free food distribution runs, it wasn't until the summer before their senior year that their friendship was rekindled. While driving back from his internship one evening, Michael decided to call a random person to chat with to pass the time. He happened to tap Eva’s name, and she, bored in another city at an internship of her own, picked up the call. They immediately fell back into step as they had several times before and talked for hours. They hoped to meet up at the end of the summer, but Eva got accepted into a study abroad program in Lund, Sweden for the next semester and left before they had the chance. She expected their contact to fade as it had in the past, but Michael was persistent this time. He downloaded WhatsApp to message her, scheduled phone calls despite the large time difference, and sent her pictures and videos from campus to remind her of home. By this time, Eva started to suspect that Michael might be interested in more than just a friendship, but strangely, she found herself not minding the prospect. Five days after returning home, Michael asked her on their first date. 4 years, 3 months and 10 days later, she has never regretted saying yes to that question, and they cannot wait to start this next chapter of their lives with “I do” surrounded by the friends and family who have supported them along the way.
