How We Met / Our Story

February 2011

James: I first saw loretta at a worship/praise team practice in February 2011. I was invited to the practice to play the piano. We did not meet that day nor had any conversation, but I heard her sing. I thought, Oh. My. Gosh. and I made sure to remember her name: Loretta Loretta: We met of all places, at church. yup, that's out story. Everyone always assumes we met at a party or through a friend. But no, we met in church. At first there was no attraction.  James: Even with all the practice talks, it took so much courage; I thought just to say hi and get her number. so I did but didnt know what to say after that. I knew I wanted a relationship with Loretta so I prayed about it. Loretta: he asked for my number, so I said yes and gave him my number. James: She said yes and gave me her number. And as she was walking away, she turned around and asked me what my last name was. So I told her, “George.” She left, and I just thought, I’m about to get looked up on Facebook.  Loretta:  Of course, as soon as I got in my car, I looked him up on Facebook [laughter]. We got to know one another slowly over conversations after practice sections. Our shared love of music and our passion for the Lord bonded us as friends from the beginning. We met in church in February on one of my church choir reashesal, which made our relationship so much more redeeming. James: And so every weekend after that—literally every weekend—we saw each other at worship practice. Loretta: He thought I was pretty, but he's met a lot of pretty Christians and they turned out to be 'blah'. As weeks went on, we hung out at a few church things. Over the next 18 months we continued to get to know each other. And slowly our friendship blossomed. Little did I know that he had been getting lots of dreams that were pointing him to me. Just before Thanksgiving, he said one thing to me, and the scales fell from my eyes. I saw him in a whole new light. James: We dated for 6 years, got engaged July, 2017 but had a long engagement.  Loretta: yes, 1 year 6 months long! Total of 8 year courtship. James: Am grateful because we met at the perfect time, when we were both content and ready to love the other. And the rest they say is history.

The Proposal

July

We had been planning a cruise since the beginning of 2015. It would be our second vacation together, just the two of us! After shopping a bit we decided on a trip to Miami and a 7days cruise to the Bahamas and Mexico. We set sail on July, 2016. The first night was a little crazy but it was still fun! so were the other nights; But on the fourth night was formal dining and that was a night I was really excited for! It’s not often that we get to dress up and dine like royalty! Before dinner we went down to get a drink and take a few pictures at the areas they had set up. During dinner, he got up and said I wanna go get something from the room. I thought it was weird when he came back to his sit …..with nothing. Anyway, we proceeded in eating our meals. Few minutes later, our waiter came in with a fancy bowl of dessert. Written on it, was the word...will you marry me! My eyes were still shut when I heard him say… “I’ve loved you since…” Well, I’m not really sure what he said after that, because I opened my eyes and saw him down on one knee and beautiful diamond ring in his hand. This was it… The moment I’ve been waiting for since I was a little girl and the man of my dreams is standing in front of me, making this a reality. So, of course I said, “Yes”! He put the ring on my finger. He was able to make this once in a life time moment, something I will never forget. It was such an amazing feeling to know that so many people were involved- and no one ruined the surprise for me! I heard people clapping their hand, wishing us congratulations and the crew were also singing for us. As I turned around, they were standing right there!! Yes, on the cruise ship! I was so excited, shocked, and speechless. What a great surprise! They also had video-taped and photographed the whole proposal. What a blessed day it was, We're so excited to celebrate this next chapter in our lives with you.
