Scott was in London on business and so took the opportunity to visit his sister Sarah who was living in London at the time. Sarah's husband Karl was having work drinks and they decided to join. Sarah was heavily pregnant at the time and probably looking (albeit in a pub) for some less drunk company than her brother. Lizzie worked in Karl's team and was entertaining clients along with Karl and some of her other colleagues. Now depending on which one of us you ask you'll get a different version of the story from this point. Scott will say Lizzie leapt up to greet him and then followed him around like a puppy. Lizzie will admit that he caught her attention but that she remained aloof! We did bond over our shared love of Captain Morgans and when Scott said the words "you can tell you run because you've got great legs" it was game over.
Scott had planned on proposing the day before, the first day of our holiday, so as to avoid Lizzie's birthday date. Unfortunately Lizzie had been so hungover after a good night out with her friends that she was in too fragile a state. We had just been on a boat ride for Lizzie's birthday which had been lovely and were walking along the cost to find somewhere for lunch. We had about half an hour before the Rangers Celtic kick off which Scott planned to watch on his phone through the entirety of lunch, but were close to the centre of Polignano a Mare so Lizzie asked to have her picture taken because the view was so lovely. Scott obliged then came and sat down next to Lizzie on the rocks. Quite out of nowhere Scott became quite serious and said he had a question, "will you be my wife". Lizzie was so shocked she replied quite coldly 'are you joking?' Once it sunk in she was an emotional wreak and Scott got to watch the game in peace as Lizzie sat dazed quietly admiring her ring over lunch.
