Join the thousands of visitors who make ZooLights a part of their annual holiday tradition. A free event, ZooLights includes live music performances, tasty winter treats and plenty of opportunities for holiday shopping. More than 500,000 LED lights transform the Zoo into a winter wonderland complete with two dazzling laser light shows set to music! Willem and Lizz have gone every year and always have a blast! Consider taking the metro, as parking is tight. If cabbing, perhaps consider being dropped off at least one block away, as the crowds can get quite large!
The Smithsonian Museums are an excellent option for visitors after New Year's Eve: the museums are open every day except Christmas, but tourists tend to avoid the museums during that first week of January. While any of the Smithsonian museums on the Mall are excellent (and free!) Lizz and Willem really like the National Gallery of Art. Even for those friends that are from the DC area, the exhibitions at this museum are usually quite exceptional, and something you probably haven't seen before. Please consider spending a day down on the Mall if you're in town, and take in the culture, artifacts, and national history collected in the Smithsonian!
Come visit our little backyard theater! The Kennedy Center is the nation's busiest performing arts center, hosting approximately 2,000 events each year for audiences numbering more than 2 million. Though their calendar is a little sparse at the time of this writing, they are always adding more events! Consider seeing a play, contemporary dance, or the National Symphony Orchestra! You'll also be visiting Foggy Bottom, which is Lizz and Willem's little slice of quiet, tree-lined-street living nestled between downtown and Georgetown.
