Elizabeth and Randal, or Liz and Randy, as most people know them currently live in Littleton, Colorado with their two rescues - Piglet, a Siamese Cat, and Goose, a yellow lab. And yes, Goose is in fact named after that Top Gun character, you’ll figure out why soon enough. Liz works for the American Water Works Association as their Membership Marketing Manager and moonlights as the company’s mascot, Eddy. Randy flies for Spirit Airlines, you see the Top Gun connection now? They moved to Denver in spring of 2022 from Salt Lake City, where they originally met.
Like most modern love stories, Liz and Randy met through a dating app. Randy’s sense of humor won Liz over and so when he asked for a date, she couldn’t say anything but yes. Unsurprisingly, Randy was early and Liz, well she was running late. Not that it mattered, they quickly hit it off and spent the whole night talking. That first date quickly turned into more, and before too long Randy was helping Liz move into her new apartment.
If you know the couple, you know hardly anything they do goes accordingly to plan and their engagement was no exception. After moving to Denver, they were both anxious to explore the great outdoors of their new state and attempted several times to plan a weekend of hiking. Well, work had other plans for Randy, and the trips in July and August fell through. Finally, a weekend in late September was open and they jumped on the chance. Notably, for all you Tennessee fans, this just so happen to be the same weekend Tennessee beat Florida and Randy just so happened to be in Knoxville ahead of the game. Back to the story, y’all care about. Liz and Randy had made reservations to hike Hanging Lake just outside of Glenwood. The morning was cool and crisp. The hike was strenuous, but worth it. At the top of the trail, they stopped for water, snacks, and photos. After they had taken their photos, they took photos for two more groups of hikers. The second, a family, offered to take photos for Liz and Randy. Liz, tried to tell them that they had already taken photos, but Randy quickly cut her off and told her to get back up on the rock ledge. Confused, Liz listened and climbed up on the ledge, followed closely by Randy. When she turned around to face the camera, Randy was down on one knee, ring box in hand. Liz gave an emphatic yes and they shared a kiss before climbing back down off the rock. The other hikers congratulated them before admitting they suspected something was up. After carefully stowing the ring back in his pack, Liz and Randy made their way down to the main attraction ... Hanging Lake. In the end, the proposal was perfect. If you take a look through the photos of Liz and Randy, most of their hikes involve waterfalls or water trickles if they were in Utah. The proposal incorporated many of their favorite things of the outdoors.
