Like all great modern love stories, ours began with a dating app. Tucker’s Hinge profile caught Liz’s attention immediately—he mentioned one of her favorite breweries, Garrison City. Meanwhile, Liz’s profile challenged potential matches with: “First round is on me if you can beat me in Monopoly Deal or Catan.” Tucker took the bait. We quickly bonded over our shared love of cooking (and eating). Not long after, Tucker asked Liz out—to Garrison City, of course. On June 29, 2022, we sat outside on the patio, talking for hours. We closed the place down (at the wild hour of 9 PM) and then wandered across the street to Chapel + Main because neither of us wanted the night to end. We discovered that we had the same taste in music, a mutual love for Pacific Rim (giant robots + monsters = peak cinema), and, after Liz mentioned The Hundred-Foot Journey, Tucker watched it a few days later—and, as predicted, loved it. Our next few dates involved cooking for each other and playing Monopoly Deal. A few weeks later, Liz met Tucker’s sister Jojo, her husband Andy, and his aunt and uncle, Missy and Jim, over a delicious dinner. That night, Liz realized how great his family was, which only made her like him more. For Liz’s birthday weekend, we headed to her family’s summer house in Connecticut, which also happened to be Wingnut weekend—a tradition in the Thimble Islands involving a frisbee golf-like game played with a wingnut tied to a string. (It makes sense if you’re there, we promise.) This was a huge deal because Tucker was about to meet her entire family—parents, brothers, nieces, nephews, and a ton of family friends. At the time, we hadn’t DTR’ed (Defined The Relationship), so Liz introduced Tucker as her “friend.” This fooled exactly no one. Alice and Scott Peck, longtime family friends, immediately called us out: “Why are you introducing him like that? He’s obviously more than a friend.” That night, we took their advice and made it official. Over the next two years, we made countless memories together, and Tucker fell in love with the island just as much as Liz had. Which brings us to August 3, 2024—another Wingnut weekend. After a full day of Wingnut, we were having cocktails and appetizers with Liz’s dad and her great friend Emily when Tucker handed Liz a birthday gift. Inside was a personalized version of Monopoly Deal, with each property customized with places that mattered to us—our home, favorite restaurants, vacation spots, Money Island, our parents’ houses. It even had pictures of our pets, Sadie and Phoenie. It was incredibly thoughtful, and naturally, we had to play a round immediately. At the very end—after Liz once again won—Tucker said, “Well, I have one more card to play.” He pulled a card from his pocket, laid it down, and it read: “Will you marry me?” Before Liz could fully process what was happening, Tucker was on one knee, holding a ring, both of us tearing up. Completely surprised, Liz said yes! And now, here we are—getting ready to celebrate our next big adventure with all of you. We can’t wait to celebrate with you on October 5, 2025!
