It started innocently enough...a proposal, a trip, a plan...and then...2020
A plastic ring & a note hidden in a toothbrush. Yup. You read that right. Scott asked Liz if she wanted to lock this all up in her birthday present, asking if she wanted to get married in Hawaii on their planned family vacation. (And yes, Liz really did ask for a toothbrush for her birthday.) Liz said yes. Reagan asked where HER ring was.
After thinking, "Let's wait this out until October to decide what we want to do..." it was pretty clear that Hawaii just wasn't in the cards. So after some searching, we found a coastal getaway in Aptos, CA that could give everyone the best of all possible destinations...seaside Aptos...giant redwood grove...secluded Bed & Breakfast. Amazing! Book it! We also landed on a great date...12/12/2020. It just doesn't get much more easy to remember! On a sentimental note, 12/18/2020 would have been Liz's parents 50th anniversary, so maybe some of that good juju would rub off. Let's go! And then...
With a press conference and a PowerPoint, our plans were yet again tossed into the blender with a state-wide travel ban, Stay-At-Home orders and more than enough drama. With friends from across the country potentially stranded and family under travel bans...we made another decision...end the madness and regroup with a bit of sanity and humor. So...cancel the super-spreader event... Go virtual... Ask a friend to get ordained... Sounds about right for us.
