When we met in college, “Liz & Rodger” was never part of the plan. Life progressed a semester at a time, and neither of us could see beyond the horizon that school had placed before us. We were writing papers and lesson plans while looking forward to graduation and a job. Today, though, instead of essays, we're writing our wedding vows. Today, though, instead of a diploma and the nine-to-five, we're looking forward to calling each other "husband" and "wife." Our story, we now realize, began much sooner than we could have guessed. Back then, it was two stories yet to become one. Sometimes they would diverge. Sometimes they would collide without warning, two pieces of flint creating sparks in the night. Eventually, our story would outlive who we were in college; it lives on today with this next chapter. And if the past⎯coupled with our love for each other⎯is any indication of what's to come, our story will one day outlive us both.
