Travel Note
Due the geography of Lake Como and the distances between the venues, we are asking all guests to stay in the following locales (Lenno, Tremezzo, Bellagio, & Menaggio -the most northern area) since transportation needs to be readily available for travel between the ceremony and reception with water taxis and taxis.
Flight
Milan Milpensa is usually the airport that most airlines fly into. Car transportation can be coordinate for a direct private transfer from either Milpensa or Linate Airports since there is no direct train route. Travel time is usually 45 minutes-1 hr depending on the time of date and location of the Como hotel.
Train
Please note, there are no direct trains from the airport to Lake Como. It would be better obtaining car transfers directly from the airport to Lake Como hotels. If you leave by train from Milan only go to City of Como then take a cab to your destination since Varenna would be hard to manage with luggage from the station, then getting a ferry to the other side of the lake. Alternatively when you are in Como you can take the hydrofoil boat service (the landing stage is 330 feet from the train station, journey time 40 minutes) which is much faster to Bellagio.
Train
You can take this express train from the Malpensa Airport if you are staying in Milan to the city center. It stops at the Main Train station, Centrale, or Cadorna. Please find out from your hotel which train station is closer to your destination. This is a very fast train faster than taxis or private transfers to the city with trains out every 30 minutes or less. Taxis are outside the main train stations, if needed. Centrale has connections to the subway if desired in the building. Cost is 13 Euros each way-very efficient and economical.
Travel Note
The ferries can accommodate cars as well as people. Just purchase a roundtrip ticket and hop off for a great ride amongst the waves to arrive in active Varenna, beautiful Bellagio or quiet Menaggio. Every town has it own personality and charm for you to discover and many things to explore along their windy streets.
Travel Note
There are several transfer companies that can accommodate private transfers which are efficient and fast from the airports and back. This is one of the many, the current rates are 1-4 persons from the airport to Bellagio is 160Euros/4-7 persons 200Euros or to Lenno 160Euros/4-7 persons 220Euros each way. If we know your plane schedule in advance, maybe we can help coordinate group transfers with other guests to help save costs.
Rental Car
Renting in Italy can be fun but challenging. You need an International Driver's License obtained at AAA with a picture good for one year. If you afraid of motorcycles passing, high hill & tight roads near Lake Como, crazy Italian drivers, then driving is not for you! Rent the smallest car possible, you will thank us when a tour bus forces you to back up on the windy small town streets, you need to go down an sharp incline to the lake, or needing to park in tight parking spaces. Print off the receipt with charges prior to leaving the states and keep it when you drop off, we always get charged for some reason and then the emails never get a response back about overcharges. Most cars are standard stick shift -ask about the type of as-regular or diesel! As for extra insurance on the rental cars, some credit car policies don't cover in Italy, if you have an accident, they might charge the cost of the car to your credit card. Remember the GPS option or your cell Map app, you will need it!
House Or Rental
There are tons of other lodging ideas in the general area of Tremezzo, Bellagio & Menaggio triangular area which we recommend staying due to the wedding venues as well as transportation pickup. Airbnb, Hometogo, Rentavilla, & VBRO as well as other websites offer very reasonable apartments, homes or villas with terrific views of the lakes with reasonable rental rates some better than the US! Just make sure that there are parking spaces close by for car rentals, walking distances to local ferries, & restaurants-we advise to stay close to the lake, not to stay further up the hill for transportation reasons. Make sure and read all of the reviews by previous guests about location, house condition, noise, WIFI, accommodations & noise so you are aware of all the factors prior to renting.
Travel Note
A couple of facts and opinions from an American who owns a small home just north of Menaggio: - Menaggio is larger than Tremezzo and contains more restaurants, bars and hotels - Menaggio is extremely well served by bus (C10 runs the entire west side of the lake, and the C12 goes directly to Switzerland. The C13 heads up the hill to Breglia if you want to walk to the Refugio above Menaggio.) - Now that the main traffic goes through a tunnel above Menaggio it does not suffer the highway traffic Tremezzo suffers - There is an information office in the Piazza Girabaldi - There is a lido/spiagia (beach) in Menaggio (it costs money) - Parco Sanagra above Menaggio contains many beautiful walks (and has an orida that rivals Bellano's famous orida Opinion - The shoreline walk in Menaggio is one of the prettiest on the lake - Bar Edo on Piazza Girabaldi has the best Gelato in Italy. - My favorite bar in the area is in a small converted castle 5 blocks up the hill on the north end of Tremezzo
Travel Note
Bellagio is a lovely small village, and the best known tourist resort town on the lake. It is situated in the middle of the lake, where the three branches join. Cars are not allowed in the historic center (with the exception of residents and time-limited hotel drop-off passes), which offers many hotels, shops, restaurants, bars, and romantic alleys throughout the stone stairways that make up most of the streets. Celebrated all over the world, Bellagio is connected by frequent passenger ferries (both fast and slow) and car ferries to all other villages of the lake. The choice of hotels is wide, most of them with beautiful lake views. In the evening when the ferry service stops, it becomes quieter and even more romantic. As it is a major tourist destination, many people visit Bellagio every day, making it crowded in peak season. . At night, when ferry stops, it is difficult to reach Bellagio from other villages, so it's not easy to dine elsewhere unless you have your own car.

Travel Note
Varenna is centrally placed on the eastern shores of the lake, and easily reached by boat from the other towns around the lake shores. It is also one of the few towns that is served by a car ferry (as opposed to the 'people only' ferries that service most towns here) so a common arrival point for visitors staying on the western shore of Lake Como.
Travel Note
Please know that when booking rooms for the wedding celebration, as of now, it’s too far in advance. This is why most of the hotels say, “sold out” on the website. If you personally contact the hotel via email, you should be able to reserve a room. Most hotels don’t unlock the rooms on the website until January.

June 9, 2019 4:00 pm - 10:00 pm
Here is another transportation company that has wide range of transportation with very modern vehicles from two person sedans to large groups with luxury minibuses. I think there prices are very reasonable. Remember that VAT surcharge is added to add of 10% when planning. They don't expect tips, but you can if you wish for excellent service. Ask if they accept credit cards prior. email: operations@icarelimo.it www.icarelimo.it
