During Gary's final PT session of his recruit academy at the fire department, Gary and Liz met as she chased him up 43 flights of stairs of their department's tallest building. She screamed "MOVE YOUR ASS, KID" at him to get him to finish the climb. All. 43. Flights. It was not love at first sight. It was more like loathing every time he saw her. She was always messing with him at work. One time during a call, their Captain asked Gary to ride in the back of the Rescue with Liz to help her with a patient. Just in case she needed a little muscle. Liz immediately gave Gary the up and down and exclaimed "I'm stronger than he is!" Little did he know, that was just her way of trying to impress him. In the end, it worked! After 9 months of working together, Gary and Liz became friends, and then realized... Maybe this could be something more. They started secretly dating in May 2019. They grew closer and closer over trivia nights, IPAs, and many fishing adventures. In August 2019, they were getting ready to to embark on a trip to Europe. They booked this trip long ago just as friends, but Liz didn't know what they were at that point. It had been 3 months of dating and Gary was still an enigma. Things seemed to be going really well but she still had so many questions. Were they actually dating? Was it just a casual fling? Was this their last hoorah? They always say dating your coworker is NOT the best idea but she really liked him. Either way, Gary was still a little reserved on expressing his true feelings. They were waiting for their flight at the airport bar and Liz couldn't help but be a little more quiet than usual with all these questions swirling in her head. After a long and awkward lull in conversation, Gary turned to Liz and said "So your my girlfriend... right?" What a romantic guy! Liz said of course and that trip to Europe they booked as friends, turned into their first adventure as a couple.
