5 and a half years together...

Alex and Liz originally met on OKCupid in September 2016, a simpler time. She doesn't remember much about his profile, but he remembers that he liked her photos and was interested in her baking. The first message he sent her asked what kinds of lemon desserts she likes to bake. Was this because he likes lemon desserts, or because her user name was an homage to Tina Fey's Liz Lemon character from 30 Rock? We may never know. After a mediocre sushi dinner in Santa Clara, they hit it off and the rest is history... It was Liz's first year teaching special education, and she was living alone in Santa Clara with her cat, Ruby, and just a few friends in the area. Alex was living only a few miles from the beach and his childhood home in Santa Cruz, and working at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. They spent almost every weekend together, including an ill-fated mountainous trip in January 2017 during which Liz shattered her wrist, requiring surgery. That first year dating also included the sudden and tragic passing of Alex's mother, Bonnie. After some time, Alex and Liz moved into their current apartment in Campbell. In Fall 2019, Liz began learning how to foster kittens, and Alex and Liz immediately foster failed with their first set, sisters they christened Sansa and Arya, after the Game of Thrones characters. In December of 2019, just before Christmas, Alex proposed to Liz at a beautiful lighthouse in Southern California. Initially, the couple planned to get married in May 2021, and booked the venue in January of 2020. Obviously this was not to be, and after Alex was laid off from his company and lost his health insurance, with Liz's high-contact job with children unable to wear masks or socially distance, they wed, alone in their apartment on Zoom, on August 17, 2020. In fall of 2021, Alex happily accepted a much better position with his current company, working in IT, and Liz has continued teaching. They are so excited to finally celebrate with their family and friends.
