In February of 2020, Liz was a freshman at The University of Arizona, while Alex was a sophomore. Liz and her college roommate, Gianna, would frequently eat dinner at the on-campus restaurant "Pangea." Liz and Gianna befriended one of the employees at the restaurant. Her name was Zahraa. On February 3rd, 2020, Liz decided to wear a Twenty-One Pilots hoodie to dinner. Twenty-One Pilots was and still is Liz and Alex's favorite band. She put in her order at the pasta station, like normal, and went to pick it up when it was ready. She was caught off guard when she found a note on her tray. The employee, Alex, had left a note on her plate that said "TOP 4 LIFE!" TOP stands for Twenty-One Pilots. To her surprise, she looked up at the employee and smiled. Alex then complimented her hoodie. When Liz sat down with Gianna, she proceeded to tell her what had happened. When they finished eating dinner, Alex came over and started bussing their table for them. This was odd because the customers would stack their plates in the designated dish bins, not the employees. While wiping down their table, Alex introduced himself to the girls, and they all went around sharing their names, majors, and other fun facts. Later that night, Zahraa texted Liz, letting her know that Alex was interested in seeing some of the videos from the previous Twenty-One Pilots concert she attended. Zahraa gave Liz Alex's number, and they began texting. Their first date was on February 15, 2020 at Buffalo Spot, a chicken wing restaurant. On March 13, 2020, everyone got news about COVID, sending all college kids home for the rest of the semester. Liz and Alex were heartbroken that they couldn't see each other during the COVID shutdown, especially since Liz had to move in with her parents in San Diego. However, they got to squeeze in one more date so they could say goodbye before Liz left Tucson. On March 21, 2020, Alex told Liz he was going to give her a riddle to solve. He sent her a Spotify Playlist called "WYBMG." The only hint he gave her was that it was a question. After a couple of minutes trying to decipher the letters, Liz guessed "Will You Be My Girlfriend?" Alex said she got it right and asked for her answer. A few minutes later, Liz sent Alex a Spotify Playlist called "WYBMG cont." with only one song in the playlist... Which was Yeah! By Usher, Lil Jon, and Ludacris. Liz and Alex dated for 5 years before Alex decided to get down on one knee and pop the question during a family trip to Thailand. On May 28, 2025, Liz said yes!
