We know Zika is a big concern for many of you, and the health and safety of all our guests is a top priority. There is no Zika virus in San Miguel de Allende or Mexico City. The virus is carried by a strain of mosquito (Aedes species) that is not found in high altitude areas due to the lack of humidity and other conditions – including the majority of Central Mexico. In 2016, this article explains that the The U.S. government revised its Zika Travel warnings stating it is okay for pregnant women to travel to Mexico City and other places at high elevation in outbreak regions. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/cdc-zika-travel-alert-higher-elevations/ Here is the official CDC map that shows there is a low likelihood of Zika infection in cities above 6,500 feet. San Miguel is in between 6,200 and 6,400 feet. https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/page/world-map-areas-with-zika https://www.journeymexico.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/Zika-infographic.png
