We met at a party that my roommates and I throw in our cul-de-sac every year, Hawthfest. Lizzy’s roommate Sophie decided that Lizzy needed to come to Hathwfest and maybe meet me – maybe not who knows; she didn’t want to be pushy… So Hawthfest was going on, Lizzy was late (as usual) so she missed her future fiancé crushing it on the bass guitar with Kirby and the Hats – but we met and immediately went to go dance in a garage across the way. My friends later caught me drinking some of my roommate Neil’s bourbon that Lizzy was passing out – my friends knew Lizzy was special because I really don’t like bourbon. According to Lizzy, the first time she thought I was pretty cool was when I came over to fix her house’s foosball table. After fixing the foosball table we talked all night and took turns singing songs to each other. We finally went on our first date about a week later to an Other Brother concert at Smith’s Old Bar. Before the concert we went to dinner and I drank like 18 cups of water because I was very nervous. After the concert we went back to Lizzy’s house and she had fancy string lights set up on the back porch and we slow danced and talked about life until the wee hours of the morning this time. Our first trip together was to Seattle in October – we got to camp in Olympic and see the beautiful trees, rainforests, banana slugs and salmon cascades that this part of the world has to offer – this trip was when we really began to think that we had something special going on. I also learned that Lizzy does not do well on red-eye flights. We love to travel together and have gotten to go on several trips with friends and family to see some beautiful sights along the way – we got to snow mobile in Yellowstone in the winter and see coral reefs in Turks and Caicos! I could really go on for much longer than anyone would care to read – but the point I want to make is that Lizzy and I feel a companionship and partnership that we are excited to last a lifetime.
All our adventures really culminated during our trip to Maine this past June. This trip was a magical time for us to get away – and I got to surprise her with her great grandmother’s ring and ask her to marry me at a beautiful B&B on Deer Isle. This trip will be unforgettable for the rest of our lives – for the beauty and wonder we got to see, and for it being the true start of the rest of our lives together.
