John Michael moved from Arizona to Lansing, MI in 2015/16 to do a year of mission and service, and thankfully stuck around Lansing. J.M. and Olivia met for the first time in 2018 when Olivia came to Lansing to visit her sister. It was not love at first sight. (Funny story - you should ask us about this) A year later, Olivia moved to Lansing, and she and J.M. starting getting to know each other through mutual friends and mutual service. In God's timing J.M. asked Olivia out on a date in October of 2022. By December of 2022 they were officially going steady. After a summer of long distance because of J.M.'s work in the fishing industry, he knew he would come home to Michigan to make the catch of his life. J.M. proposed marriage to Olivia on October 28th of 2023, and she enthusiastically said yes!
