Borrego Springs is primarily known as a gateway to Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, California's largest state park. It's also recognized for its unique desert landscape, stargazing opportunities, and vibrant art scene, particularly the large-scale metal sculptures scattered throughout Galleta Meadows. Additionally, it's a designated International Dark Sky Community, offering exceptional night sky viewing. Conveniently, Borrego Springs has no stoplights, and nighttime lighting is kept to a minimum to protect the view of the night sky. Borrego Springs serves as the primary access point for exploring the vast Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, offering hiking, camping, and wildlife viewing opportunities. The village and surrounding countryside have a wide variety of desert flora and fauna. One iconic species found in the Borrego Springs area is the California Fan Palm, Washingtonia filifera, a lower risk/near-threatened species and the only palm native to the western United States. Ricardo Breceda's metal sculptures, including the famous serpent, are a major attraction, adding an element of art and whimsy to the desert landscape. Off-road to see the spectacular dinosaurs, scorpions, camels, and much more! Fun fact, "Borrego", is Spanish for "lamb", in honor of the local herds of bighorn sheep.
