We have a hotel block arranged for the wedding at Inntel Hotel Zaandam Wednesday April 29 to Sunday May 3. You can use the bookings link until the 29 of March. The hotel is close to the venue and right on a direct train into Amsterdam. Please see the "Travel" section for a link to book in the block.
We recommend taking the train and other forms of public transport. Download the NS app to see train schedules and find routes. If you're out late, Uber is also a very reliable means of getting in and out of Amsterdam. There are also bike rental places and bike lanes along every road, it is a great way to get around! The Dutch drive on the same side of the road as the Americans, but we recommend against a car unless you are traveling to places you can't reach by train. This is due to small streets and differences in driving rules.
Eat at FEBO, visit Museumplein (Van Gogh Museum, Rijks Museum, etc), take a canal boat tour, go to Gouda cheese market on Thursday morning, visit Albert Cuyp Market. If you do rent a car, it is worth making the drive south to see the Delta Works. It will also be tulip season! On the wedding day, you will get to see a famous windmill park (Zaanse Schans) which will include a guided tour of the windmills, clog making factory, and a river tour on the Zaan River.
After Lunch we will be taking photos out on the terrace. To avoid having everyone awkwardly standing around and watching, we have worked with the venue to arrange both boat tours and guided tours! The boat tour takes you up the river, while the guided tour will take you through all of the museums that the venue shares the park with. If you don't want to go on either of the planned tours, feel free to walk about the park by yourself or simply leave and come back later. We won't be offended if you need to go take a nap to make it to dinner.
Tickets become available 6 weeks in advance, and typically sell out quickly. Try to book in mid-March.

Big one for Liv: The Netherlands does not have ice the same way the US does. If you ask for an iced beverage be prepared to get two ice cubes (unless it's at an American company, like Starbucks). Water also comes in little tiny cups, and you need to ask for it (make sure to specify "tap water" or else you will get bottled water). Big one for Wim: There are no free refills. For everyone else: There is no tipping. Bicycles have right of way.
