Pat and his friends from high school started going to the Baltimore Orioles' "Student Night" games on Fridays during their junior year. After a couple of games, Pat's friend Tim said, "Why are we not inviting girls to this?" Tim then called his neighbor and friend since elementary school, Olivia, and asked her to grab a friend or two to come to the game that evening. Olivia was expecting Tim's gold Oldsmobile in her driveway only to find a blue PT Cruiser in its stead. Upon hopping into the back seat, Olivia and Pat introduced themselves and they were off. During the short ride, a classic blink-182 song was blaring (as usual) and Olivia was harmonizing in the back seat. At that point, both of them knew that they'd at least be good friends.

Over the next few months, Olivia and Pat spent more and more time together: group baseball games, neon bowling nights, and blink-182 concerts at Tim's house were common themes. As the summer wound down, Olivia and Pat went on more and more "friend dates" to the movies and to Beaver Dam Swim Club in addition to group hang-outs. Once school started up again, Olivia began visiting Pat at his school's water polo practice after her theater rehearsals. Pat was the team manager and would often be bored out of his mind as he waited for practice to end. During one of these visits, Pat took the plunge and asked Olivia to be his girlfriend.

In September 2017, Pat decided it was time to purchase the ring. After acquiring the rock, Pat drove down to Richmond for a visit to celebrate their 9th dating anniversary and the ring made the trip with him with full intention to propose on that anniversary. Pat called Olivia's parents to ask for their daughter's hand. On that call, they convinced Pat to postpone the proposal to when they would all be travelling to Florida for New Years. The three decided it was better to have the whole family there for the occasion, and thus the proposal was postponed. Pat called his parents and sneakily invited them to Florida without Olivia's knowledge; it was going to be a big surprise in multiple ways. On the big day, Pat and Olivia went to dinner. On the ride home, Olivia was anticipating changing into her sweats and sweatshirt and curling up on the couch, unaware of Pat's plan for the night. Eventually, she was persuaded to go for a walk on the beach. Strolling down the walkway, Olivia noticed a candle-lit heart on the beach and gave Pat a look of suspicion. Without saying much else, the two walked into the center of the heart where he dropped to one knee. Mirroring her answer to being asked out the first time, Olivia responded: "Uh, yeah!" The whole family then met for champagne on the walkway and the wedding planning began. Now, after living in separate states for the past four years as Olivia finishes up medical school, Olivia and Pat are more than ready to start this next adventure.
