McCain and I met at Texas A&M University through the Navigators, a Christian ministry, during our sophomore year. I briefly remember saying hi to him for the first time in November 2022, but it wasn’t until March 2023, during a spring break trip with the Navs, that everything subtly shifted when he led a hike in Colorado, and I low-key started liking him. I found myself thinking about him, so I chose to ride back to Texas in the same car, and may have lightly interrogated him because I wanted to know more, asking about his testimony and church. When he said he didn’t attend one, I invited him to my church, and he came that same weekend; still, I believed he was meant to be just a friend. He kept coming to church and over the rest of 2023 we talked on and off as my interest quietly grew. I even told my mom that summer that I liked him. In August 2023, I jokingly suggested a weekly sunrise yoga class at 6:30 a.m., and McCain was one of the few friends who showed up. My friend Moni was so intrigued as to why he kept coming, so she asked why he would attend, he said “the community,” and by the end of the semester, it was just us two, so I was the community. He later admitted he came for the community at first and stayed because feelings for me were growing. Our friendship was full of unspoken feelings, great conversations, and prayerful discernment; as I prepared to study abroad in Italy, I gave my love life to God and focused on my faith and career. The Lord was strengthening us individually to join us later!! While abroad in early 2024, I hardly thought of him, except for the occasional moment when I saw crinkle-cut fries branded “McCain” in Italian grocery stores. Senior year arrived and after months of little interaction, something reignited at a fall retreat when he let me do henna on him (because who else would let that happen for that long). On November 14, he asked me to go to Piada, confessed his feelings, and on November 23, 2024, we went on our first official date, awkward at first because we had been friends for so long, but something I’m endlessly grateful I didn’t call off. One year later, on November 23, 2025, we celebrated walking through countless seasons of life together. The different seasons of life did not cause us to grow apart; instead, they drew us closer to one another and most importantly to God. That’s when I realized that I would happily laugh and go through the thick of life with McCain for the rest of my life. On December 20, 2025, McCain got on one knee and proposed! I happily said yes!!! I am overwhelmed with joy and gratitude that God has brought us together and am excited to serve the Lord with the love of my life, McCain!
We met one another through the Navigators ministry at Texas A&M University. During a spring break trip to Colorado in 2023, our friendship took its first steps upon the side of a mountain. There, we both begun getting to know one another through hikes, board games, and car rides. The following fall semester Litzy jokingly encouraged people to start a sunrise yoga group. McCain called her bluff and we along with a few others begun going. Week by week the others left until it was only the two of us. During these times, mutual attraction grew between us as we learned more about who each other was and sharing our faith with each other. The Lord, however, had other plans for us. Plans to strengthen us individually and prepare us for His plans. Litzy went off to Italy to study abroad while McCain joined a devoted men’s Bible study program called Noblemen in the Spring of 2024. In the Fall of 2024, we begun to spend increasing time with one another in study buddies, with each time involving less studying and more talking. By the end of the semester, through a lot of prayer and council, McCain asked Litzy out on a date to which she agreed. We went to Marthas Bloomers in Navasota, Tx on November 23rd, 2024 with many dates to follow. During our time dating, we had gone through many life experiences and changes. These included road trips, graduations, moving to new cities, finding community, and much more. Despite this, our love for the Lord and each other grew in each of these occurrences. In each of these times, thoughtful and faithful conversation was had bringing us closer to one another and God. With peace in the relationship God had so graciously grew between them, McCain proposed on December 20th, 2025 to which Litzy happily said yes.
