Peyton started going to Camp Seafarer in the summer of 2013 and continued to attend as a camper until 2017 when, as a Counselor in Leadership Training, she took an interest in one of the only boys at the all-girls camp. Matthew began working at Seafarer in 2015 as a mate on the Joy Boy, a boat that took campers back and forth to Morehead City as part of camp programming. Eventually, Matthew took the position as the head of fishing where he interacted with counselors and campers daily on the powerboating activity. Through years of working on powerboating together (and a group of Peyton's extremely persistent campers), Matthew and Peyton fostered a friendship that lasted all of their summers on staff. In 2019, Peyton invited Matthew to come to Pawleys Island after camp to join her dad fishing on their new boat. Unfortunately for them (and fortunately for her), it rained all weekend and they were never able to go fishing, and Matthew and Peyton have been together since.
