How They Met

Love in a Time of Covid

Evan and Chelsea met on a Christian dating website. Evan had tried online dating for a while and decided that July of 2020 was going to be his last month of searching. In July of 2020, Chelsea decided to try online dating for the first time. But, only for one month. God sure had good timing on that one! Evan and Chelsea got to know each other through coffee dates, picnics, and a lot of hiking. They bonded over a love of books, enthusiasm for the Lord of the Rings, and a shared love for God. They fell in love on a road trip to Montana. Falling in love during the crazy year of 2020 had it's challenges, but they are so thankful for God's goodness through it all. God is still at work and continues to bless them.

The Proposal

11/11/2020

After getting back from their road trip to Montana, Evan knew Chelsea was the one. He began making plans for a proposal. However, Covid complicated the plans significantly, so he began praying that God would help him with the proposal as he improvised. Chelsea's birthday is on November 9th and Evan's is on November 10th, so Evan planned a special birthday surprise. He invited Chelsea to go stargazing on the day after their birthdays, November the 11th. He bought a birthday card and wrote a proposal message in it, but just one problem (or a blessing): he forgot the pen! On the trip and running out of daylight, the only pen he could find in his bag was a red one that he used for his Greek lessons. Beggars cannot be choosers, so he proceeded to write both the birthday message and his proposal in red ink. At the stargazing park, they were only allowed to use red lights at night. So with a red flashlight, Chelsea opened the card and tried to read the message. However, it looked like a secret message written with invisible ink! Evan stated he would grab a different flashlight. What Chelsea didn't know was that Evan had reached into his pocket and pulled out the lighted ring box. Now with a white light, Chelsea was able to read his proposal. She turned around and saw Evan on one knee holding the ring, asking her to marry him. Chelsea replied, "YES!"
