Our Story

Scott and Lisl met while living in Los Angeles through mutual friends (Thanks Heather and Tanner!!) They were immediately drawn to each other, and used any excuse to hang out with their friend group so they could see each other. When they met, Scott recognized a tattoo of Lisl’s as an architecture reference and understood the meaning behind it immediately. This surprised and impressed her considering no one else ever understood it without an explanation! They soon discovered they both went to (and dropped out of) architecture school before they met. There were ultimately many things that brought them together, aside from their friends and being midwesterners and tall (what are the odds?!) One day they were at a Super Bowl party. They don’t remember who won or who played (calm down, it wasn’t the Chiefs – we clearly weren’t there to watch the game anyway.) The important part of this story is that there was pie. Not just any pie, but a banana cream pie from the one and only Apple Pan, a famous diner in L.A. The night after the Super Bowl, they were texting about how delicious this banana cream pie was. Lisl asked if he had any leftovers. Scott was at the gym, and invited her over not thinking she would take him up on the offer for pie at 10:00 pm on a Monday, but she did because of her obvious soft spot for pie (and Scott.) Shortly after this, Scott asked Lisl to dinner at Casa Modena, the best Italian restaurant in Los Angeles (this is factual and not at all our biased opinion.) The owner of Casa Modena is a truffle hunter from Italy, who always offers a free limoncello with dessert, and who later invited Scott and Lisl to go truffle hunting with him. After tiramisu and limoncello, they went to Scott’s apartment and hung out with friends. Side note – they played a board game that night called "Pandemic", the goal of which is to save humanity and prevent the spread of a virus (we are pretty sure this game is real life Jumanji – play at your own risk.) After their friends left that night, Scott and Lisl played a video game called “Overcooked” which they had frequently played together before with friends. You prepare food, all while preventing your kitchen from catching on fire, delivering a specific number of orders, and doing so in the given time limit. This evening and many more after, they discovered how great they are as a team, and that life is better together. To this day, banana cream pie, limoncello, truffles, and cooking all hold a very special place in their hearts.
