The Outer Banks are one of our favorite vacation spots - there is so much to see and do. Below are a few recommendations within Corolla but also make sure to check out the rest of OBX (Duck, Kitty Hawk, Nags Head, Kill Devil Hills etc.)

The Currituck Club

Currituck Beach Lighthouse

Open since 1875. the lighthouse towers over the Outer Banks landscape. For a small fee, visitors can climb the 220 steps up the iron staircase for an epic view of the Currituck Sound and the Atlantic Ocean.

Wild Horses of Corolla Tours

Just north of Historic Corolla park and Corolla Village, visitors can gaze upon the Wild Horses of Corolla in their natural habitat, The official state horse of North Carolina, the Corolla Wild Horses are descendants of colonial Spanish Mustangs brought by explorers nearly 5OO years ago, and there are several ways to see them. The best way to see the Corolla Wild Horses is to book a tour with one of several local guides but it is also possible to venture out onto the sand in your own four-wheel-drive vehicle.

The Currituck Maritime Museum tells the integral story of the regions historic wooden boats and their craftsman.

Outer Banks Center for Wildlife Education

Situated between the lighthouse and the Currituck Sound, the Outer Banks Center for Wildlife Education houses exhibits on both natural and wildlife history and offers educational programs in the park.

Historic Corolla Village

Just a short stroll from the Currituck Beach Lighthouse and Historic Corolla park, the village is a charming little historic community reflecting a less hurried time in Corolla's past and includes quaint shops and restaurants, many of which are housed In reclaimed and preserved buildings. This beautiful, pedestrian-friendly area is home to historical sites such as the Historic Corolla Chapel, the Parker House, the U.S. Lifesaving Station and the WEVS schoolhouse — a two-room historic schoolhouse built in the late 1800s to serve the children of the lighthouse keepers and surfmen (which is still in operation today).

Pine Island Audubon Sanctuary

The Donal C. O'Brien Jr. Audubon Sanctuary at Pine Island lies 14 miles north of the Wright Memorial Bridge in Corolla and features a 2.5 mile nature trail with viewing stands, kayak access to marsh areas, and a variety of fascinating educational programs.
