Ithaca is Gorges! If you are looking to get out in nature and experience breathtaking hikes among waterfalls, this is the spot to come! Other great spots for hiking, waterfalls, and gorges are Buttermilk Falls, Taughannock Falls, Ithaca Falls, and the Cascadilla Gorge Trail connecting downtown Ithaca with Cornell's campus.
This four-block, pedestrian-only section of Downtown is a diverse environment that is easily described as eclectic, vibrant, and constantly changing. The restaurants are culturally diverse, the shops are far from mainstream, and entertainment is all around. Admire buildings covered with incredible art by local artists, pop into one of the many independent bookstores, or stop to enjoy the many street musicians you'll pass!
Cornell Botanic Gardens is free and open year round from dawn to dusk. It is home to 35 acres of speciality gardens, an expansive arboretum, and thousands of acres of natural areas. Sarah's favorite spot is the Robison Herb Garden.
Located just over 30 minutes from Ithaca, Watkins Glen is a small Finger Lakes town with tons to offer. Take a boat ride on Seneca Lake, hike the famous gorges at Watkins Glen State Park, or visit the Watkins Glen International Racetrack.
