We went to the same small town Adventist University in Argentina (UAP) for years, however never crossed paths until 2 years after my graduation. Joaquin had come to LA to apprentice as a mechanic during his summer break as he had done a for the past few summers and I was living in Loma Linda, my home town, studying for my Medical Boards. As Adventist small-town connections often go, turns out we had good friends in common. Roxy, who has known Joaquin since childhood, invited him for a weekend of home-cooked meals and green Loma Linda hills. It was then, after meeting my extended family and family friends, it was decided that he and I should meet. After tentative messaging and vast amounts of prayer, Joaquin made the 2 hour journey back to Loma Linda and we met for the first time at Church. Conversation flowed easily, smiles and laughter abounded, stories resounded, and the rest of that rainy Sabbath day seemed to disappear in an instant. We made plans to continue to the conversation, and we haven't missed a day since.
