Like a lot of millennial couples, we met online. After messaging for a short while, and given our mutual love for craft beer and professional sports, we decided to meet at St. Augustine's Pub for a few beers and to watch the Canucks game. Lisa broke most of her rules she had for online dating that night (we met at night and were consuming alcohol), and Dave broke a rule of his own too (he had dinner with Lisa and not just drinks). We had a fun night just talking and getting to know each other. Our second date was not long after, and the rest is history.
Lisa and Dave were at Lisa's sister's vow renewal in January 2019 in Las Vegas. Post vow renewal, Lisa and Dave were walking down Las Vegas Boulevard, Lisa was all dolled up wearing a fancy dress and holding her bouquet with Dave beside her looking exceptionally handsome in his new suit. Many people were giving us their congratulations in error (we were in Las Vegas, after all). Lisa turned to Dave, "We should get married", Dave replied "Here?", Lisa nodded and smiled. Dave, always being the level-headed one, said "I think our family and friends would be upset at missing that." Wedding talk continued between the two of us, and later that night in the hot tub atop The Venetian Hotel, we basically decided it was a good idea (side note: we had not been drinking alcohol at that point, just to be clear!). About a month and a half later, celebrating a belated Valentines Day, Lisa opened her present from Dave. It was a pink bag, filled mostly with gift tissue paper. At the bottom, wrapped in more gift tissue, was a box. Lisa opened the box, but it was empty. She said to Dave, "It's empty" but Dave was down on one knee with another box that had a ring inside. Lisa was speechless (for those of you who know her, you know how rare of an event that is for her), and she couldn't find any words. Dave asked "Yes?" and she nodded (and cried) and we were engaged.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we got married at Pacific Spirit Park in a small ceremony that was broadcasted live on Facebook. It wasn't what we originally planned, but it was a perfect day nonetheless. We are so happy to finally be Mr. and Mrs. Miller!
