We met at a pool party that was being hosted by Lisa. Our current exes were our current significant others at the time and while there were no implications of what would later become a fruitful relationship between the two of us, we began to develop a friendship. After those relationships ended we remained friends, until one day we went to lunch. I was asking for advice on a proposition that came to me and he thought I was going to buy insurance from him. While his advice was really good, I don't tend to mix business with friends or family. I try to avoid conflicts of interest. We knew one another in a certain space, but not in the space that was beyond platonic. That lunch we talked about our current dating disappointments, laughed about a few past topics that we had discussed and had one of our usually pleasing conversations. In jest, I asked "do you have a twin I can date?", he asked in jest, what was wrong with him. In that quick exchange we both looked at one another differently and began to ask the question of ourselves individually, "Does this really work" and "is this really a possibility"? We were good at friendship, respect for one another was not a question, honest communication had never been missing, and cheering one another on was in constant supply so the foundation was already solid. We were reluctant to pursue a relationship with one another due to our level of acquaintance with one another's exes, so we resisted for a while until we decided that we wanted to try this out.
We had a romantic dinner and Bob's Steak and Chop House - Austin. We had a great dinner and I stepped away to the ladies’ room and when I came back he stood up as he usually does to pull out a chair or wait till I was seated. Must be the Marine in him or just the man he was raised to be...but he looked me in the eye and began to tell me how important our relationship was to him. He got down on one knee in front of everyone and before he could get it out I said "YES". He already had friends gathered at Rules & Regs at the Fairmont in Austin where some of my favorite ladies were there to surprise me and help celebrate our newly engagement. It was a continuation of how the relationship had been going. That was the last date we had as boyfriend and girlfriend, and meeting our friends was the first date with the titles Fiancée.
