Fort Mackinac

Demonstrations and tours by costumed interpreters are scheduled throughout the day. Experience the boom of the iconic Fort Mackinac cannon. Walking tours. Cannon firing every day at 11:00am. 14 buildings at the fort are restored and open for tours. On March 3, 1875 Mackinac Island became the second national park in the United States, 3 years after Yellowstone. 50% of the island was sat aside by President Ulysses.S. Grant. Fort Holmes

A fortified earthen fort located on the highest point of Mackinac Island. Originally built in 1814 by British forces during the War of 1812. Reconstructed in 2025.
