Lisa and Jeremy connected 3,901 miles apart on the World Wide Web despite living in the same small city of Portland, ME. Before shaking off the jet lag, Jeremy met Lisa at Tandem Coffee, neutral coffee grounds (get it?). In an uncharacteristically easygoing mood, Lisa shrugged off his tardy arrival. A spilt coffee and disappointedly leafy mint tea couldn't put a damper on a lovely conversation. After a whirlwind of a jazzy Christmas concert, a late night chat over cocktails, coming dead last in trivia, and literally setting Jeremy's kitchen (and figuratively, Lisa's heart) on fire, they both knew it was something special.
The day started off in the most auspicious of ways with two disappointing test drives, one pushy salesperson, and countless stress tears shed. Jeremy persevered and fortunately, despite making a convincing assurance the evening's plans could be postponed, Lisa insisted on forging ahead as planned. Picking up Otherside Deli sandwiches en route to the surprise location, Jeremy kept the destination under wraps. Lisa remained blissfully unaware of the real reason for their Portland Head Light picnic throughout setting up the blanket, even slightly annoyed when Jeremy insisted on delaying dinner for a romantic smooch. Much to Lisa's shock, he got down on one knee, pulled the ring from his pocket, and popped the question. Jeremy interrupted the celebrations to let Lisa know he hired a photographer to covertly capture every moment. A hard-earned toast and dinner as the sky turned pink and purple; it was a picture perfect evening in every way.
Too smart for his own good, Jeremy spoiled some of the surprise by predicting whilst in deep conversation with Bacchus "I think Mom is going to propose on Saturday." Undeterred, Lisa set about creating an unforgettable scavenger hunt centered on their early dates. The first clue led them to Tandem Coffee to enjoy hot beverages per their first date. The second clue proved to be more challenging, after all who actually knows what "conversely" means? Jeremy managed to decipher Gross as their next stop, and the pair enjoyed scones bench-side. After beer and noms where they shared their first kiss, the last clue brought them to Mackworth Island for a short, photo-filled walk. The sun setting, Lisa rushed them to the fairy house village where she hid a house for Jeremy...and realized it was the wrong village. Panic setting in, Jeremy assured her there was a smaller site following and sure enough, they found it in the waning light. Lisa pulled the ring from her purse and gave Jeremy his final question: "Will you marry me?" And he said yes, of course.
