Cory and I were introduced for the first time while studying at one of the libraries at KU. I was already there with my roommate and good friend, Sara. Our other roommate and now bridesmaid, Natalie, planned to join us there and would be bringing one of her friends from her pharmacy class. That friend was Cory! We briefly said hi, and then I went back to studying. According to Cory, I “mumbled” hello and then proceeded to ignore him the rest of the night. What did he expect? I was studying for a test! Little did we know we would meet again a couple weeks later at a mutual friend’s birthday party! We were able to laugh and joke about the first meeting at the library. We continued talking the rest of the night (mainly about KU basketball) and both knew it was something special. From then on, we were pretty much inseparable. After graduating from KU in 2016, I moved to Tahlequah, OK for optometry school. We spent the next four years long distance, but we were able to still see each other at least once a month. It was tough being apart for that long, but only helped make our relationship even stronger!
Cory’s original proposal plan was in Lawrence, a place that means so much to us, surrounded by all of our family and friends. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, he had to rearrange those plans. He was still able to pull off the surprise of a lifetime a couple months later. On June 18th, 2020, Cory proposed at Palmer Park in Colorado Springs while on vacation with my parents.
