We met while we were both working in Yosemite in 2016 as seasonal employees and quickly became friends. Saul was a firefighter and Linnea was a botanist on a fire ecology project. The following seasons we remained friends until we realized there was too much of a "spark" to ignore, and in the fall of 2018, we started dating!

Saul had the ring for months and was waiting for the perfect time and perfect place. Since we live in Yosemite, he at least had the setting covered! He thought about proposing in a sequoia tree during a fire in the grove, or on top of the second tallest mountain in Yosemite, but we were too busy for our own good, and before I left for school, and he went out to another fire, we decided to spend our last day together kayaking on Tenaya lake. Mr. Chiller Saul was NOT chill, which was interesting for Linnea since she's normally uptight about the plans. Saul had a very specific idea about where he wanted to go and what he wanted to do. We packed a picnic on our kayak and paddled out to the other side of the lake, but much to Saul's irritation, we were joined by a group of teens. Then the clouds started rolling in during our picnic lunch, so we waited out the kids and the clouds and Saul asked if we could take a photo on his phone (this is important, because he NEVER asks to take photos), so he could have something to look at when he went out on the fire. Instead, he started a video, and while I was standing and waiting for him to get into place for the photo, he was down on one knee! We got engaged on the lakeshore with no one around and then paddled back to the car and headed home. Saul headed to a fire and I started school that week. It was simple, beautiful, and perfect for us!
