The wedding day is here (for real this time)! We are looking forward to celebrating with everyone this Saturday, January 25, 2025, at our wedding reception! Feel free to arrive at the Grove Park Inn any time after 4:45 p.m. The first shuttle will take guests from the front of the hotel down to Seely Pavillion at 4:50 p.m., with multiple trips back and forth. While you are able to walk to Seely, please plan to take the shuttle (it will be cold!) and do not come down earlier than 4:50 p.m. Once you arrive, please enjoy the cocktail hour with some food and drinks, and get ready for a night of celebration! Cheers!
Our engagement story started long before the proposal itself. Family means the world to both Lindsey and me, and I knew I wanted our loved ones involved in this journey. Though I had known for years that Lindsey was the one I wanted to marry, it wasn’t until Christmas 2022 that I found a ring as special as she is, and began planning the proposal. I chose to propose to Lindsey in Charleston, South Carolina, her favorite place in the world, on her 25th birthday. The planning process was a special endeavor, but I wasn’t entirely sure our families could keep the secret—because I was inviting them all to join us in Charleston to surprise Lindsey after she said yes. On the special day, we drove to Charleston with Lindsey blissfully unaware of my plans. We planned a lunch at her favorite Mexican spot downtown (a classic Lindsey move), followed by a walk along the water toward the Battery. Meanwhile, I had arranged for our hotel room to be “not ready” (as it was actually upgraded, and my mom and sister were decorating it with flowers and photos), reserved a wine bar for a family gathering, and planned to propose under the gazebo at the Battery. Now, things did not go exactly according to plan. While I knew Lindsey would want an intimate engagement, I assumed there would not be that many people walking around outside in February. However, Charleston greeted us with a warm day, drawing crowds to every corner. My envisioned intimate proposal under the gazebo seemed to morph into a spectacle worthy of a news segment. As Lindsey enjoyed her lunch, I was in a state of panic. It was noon, and our schedule had us walking to the Battery by 1 p.m. for the proposal, with family to meet us at the wine bar around 1:30. With this in mind, I had to quickly find a new spot to propose that would be as special as she is to me. As we walked along the water, I scanned every bench, alley, and tree for a perfect spot. When we reached the Battery and saw the gazebo crowded with people (Exhibit A: Lindsey’s worst nightmare), I grew increasingly concerned. Just then, Lindsey suggested we explore a nearby street. I immediately thought that Charleston has charming alleys—maybe we’ll find a hidden gem. As we began walking, I saw to my right a beautiful stone area encased by greenery along three sides, a picture perfect place to propose (if you guessed it, yes, this was effectively the side yard of someone’s house). In a split second decision, I decided that this is where I would ask the love of my life to marry me. I took Lindsey’s hand, led her into the stone area, and began to tell her how special it was that we were back here four years later (we had visited Charleston on our first vacation together). I shared how much she has changed my life for the better, and how I had always thought my purpose was to change the world one moment at a time, but she showed me we could do it through the life and family we create together. Now, I would not suggest you ask Lindsey about any of the above because, according to her, she blacked out the moment I began “trespassing.” As I began telling her these things, Lindsey, naturally, thought I was just having a “Nick moment” and being serious and dramatic just like any other day. Therefore, as I am in the middle of telling her how much I love her, Lindsey continuously began to tell me we can’t be on someone else’s property and we should go . . . Therefore, to ensure my soon to be fiancée allowed me to finish telling her how much she meant to me, I got down on one knee. Thankfully, at this moment, Lindsey stopped trying to leave me, and she said yes! In a story that truly reflects us, we couldn’t have asked for a better weekend. We celebrated with our families, and embarked upon this next step in our lives, together. We cannot thank our families enough for being a part of this journey with us, and we cannot wait to celebrate our love for one another with family and friends this fall at our reception. Cheers, Nick
