Our Story

When they first met in the fall of 2014, Lindsey did not like Steven. Similarly, Steven did not like Lindsey. This was unfortunate because they worked in the same department (CAS Tech) at WMU and frequently saw each other. Lindsey was finishing her undergrad degree and working as a lab tech; Steve was finishing his Master's degree and working as a Network Administrator. Mutal work friends thought they'd be a good match and tossed them together on a blind date, hoping that something would come of it; spoiler alert, the blind date was awful. Steven walked away thinking, "She's pretty. But boring. Very boring". Lindsey walked away, thinking, "He's cute, but kinda a jerk." Once they heard what the other had to say about them, their dislike continued. Months passed, and in the process of working together, Lindsey started to dislike Steven less, and Steven started to dislike Lindsey less. They began to talk a bit at work, talking turned to banter, banter turned to flirting, and eventually, they realized that their first impressions of each other might be wrong. One evening in the spring, Lindsey's former roommate called her to tell her she was hosting a party and that Steven would be there. Lindsey decided she'd go to the party, and as it so happens, Steve and Lindsey ended up hanging out all night. The next day they worked together, Steve asked Lindsey out on a date. Lindsey said yes, and the rest is history.

Proposal

Five years, four states (Michigan to Missouri to Kansas to Colorado), three countries( Netherlands, Belgium& Germany), two job hops, and one global pandemic later...Steve proposed to Lindsey on top of Mount Sanitas in Boulder Co on August 8, 2020. Racing the clock, they climbed up the mountain trail in the dark ( 4 AM), so they could watch the sunrise, drink champagne, eat donuts and enjoy the start of the day together. After they both caught their breath, watched the sunrise, and ate their donut breakfast, Steve told Lindsey he wanted to spend every sunrise and every sunset he has with her. He then asked her to marry him. Lindsey replied, "Well, it's about time you asked." she teared up a little, then said, "Yes."
