How We Met

Her Side: It was just like any other cold January morning—I was headed to my barista job. I had worked in customer service since I was 16, so I wasn’t the type of person to be thrown off my game. A variety of folks, including cute guys, would come by all the time. But on this random day, this hunk walked in. My eyes locked with his ocean-blue eyes, and I was completely caught off guard. This was the moment I had grown up hearing about and seeing in the movies. It was undeniable… unforgettable… a fundamental shift. I felt all flustered and giddy in a way I never had before. I had never had anyone look at me the way he did. Rylan Reign Woodward… He kept coming into my coffee shop day after day. I remember feeling so anxious, anticipating and hoping for those few moments when he would stop by on his way to work. Then, on Saturday, February 25th, my roommate and I were headed to our longtime friend’s birthday party. The music was roaring until suddenly, I turned—and locked eyes with Mr. Ocean Eyes. Everything went quiet in my head. All I could hear was my heart beginning to race. He smiled at me as he and his posse started walking over. They shouted, “Look, it’s coffee girl!” which made me instantly bashful, knowing they had been talking about me—I even had a nickname. He messaged me that night, asking me out on a date. I was hesitant about jumping into anything and had no clue what his intentions were (I hadn’t had the best dating experiences in the past, which made me a little skeptical of these Utah boys). But I got straight to the point and blurted out, “Look, you’re going to have to be patient with me.” He replied, “That’s okay, I’ll wait as long as you let me.” I was absolutely flabbergasted by his calm and gentle response, but right then and there, I knew this guy was different. But this not-so-random upcoming day (08/08/2026) will be the best day of my life—because I get to call the man I always prayed for my husband. I can’t wait to smooch you in front of all our loved ones. His Side: In 2023, I moved to Pleasant Grove, Utah, with some of my close friends. We found a big house in a quiet, family neighborhood—honestly, it felt like a pretty ideal setup. What I didn’t realize at the time was that the best coffee spot around was just right around the corner. I started stopping in every now and then on weekends, and one day I noticed a beautiful girl working there. Not long after, I went out one night with my friends, and by chance, she was there too. My friend Cayden and I decided to go say hi, and before I knew it, we were having a great conversation—and I ended up getting her number. When I got back home, I couldn’t stop thinking about her. I figured I might as well take my shot, so I kept it simple and texted, “Would you like to go on a date tomorrow?” Then came the stress of planning what to do. After going back and forth, I landed on an idea: grab some painting supplies, bring some snacks, and go for a drive. I picked her up in my truck, and we drove around listening to music until we found a spot to set up. Looking back, I probably didn’t think the painting part through—I’m not exactly the most artistic person—but it didn’t matter. I found myself more focused on her, her painting, and her incredible, never-ending playlist. Even then, I could tell she was one of the most genuine, kind, and amazing people I had ever met. By the end of the night, I knew I didn’t want it to end—and I went for a kiss. After that date, she was all I could think about. I walked into the kitchen at my place where I talked to my buddy Kam. After some small talk, I admitted that I was going to marry this girl. I am really excited to finally make Lindsey my wife.
