We met at UCLA in the spring of 2014 while working for New Student Orientation. Lindsey knew Andres as the returning staffer everyone raved about. Andres knew Lindsey as the girl whose catchphrase was “I’m so tired.” (It’s true, and I’m still tired!) It wasn’t until later that year, through mutual friends, that we really began spending time together. What followed were dates to Korean BBQ, trips to Vegas (where Lindsey made Andres leave Tiesto early because it was too loud), Andres helping Lindsey pass her Spanish classes (he’s still trying to help her learn), and lots of food delivery (we lived on Taco Bell and Jersey Mike’s).
After graduation, Lindsey moved to New York to be closer to her sister, Amanda (Matron of Honor!), who was studying at NYU Dental. She spent five years building a career she loved and enjoying the city, but knew she'd always end up back on the West Coast. Andres stayed in California, building his career in finance and strengthening the lifelong friendships that continue to mean so much to him (aka managing to attend every concert and bottomless brunch in Los Angeles with his incredibly large and supportive friend group). We stayed in touch — sometimes consistently, sometimes from a distance. We would see each other if we happened to be on the same coast.
We thank Alaska Airlines! It was December of 2020 and Lindsey was flying home from visiting family after Christmas. A kind flight attendant upgraded her to first class as a belated birthday present. This was Lindsey’s first-ever first class and she was enamored by the free wine and WiFi. She got a little tipsy and impulsively texted Andres. They briefly caught up over text. Fast forward a few months and Andres texted Lindsey to meet up for a drink, as he happened to be in NYC. The timing was impeccable! Lindsey was packing to move back to California and only had a few days left in the city. She upgraded his request into a dinner, which gave them ample time to chat and reconnect. When Lindsey moved back we continued talking, and the rest is history. We’ve built a life full of weekend trips — be that St. Luis to see the Cardinals play three days in a row, or to Cleveland to watch the Browns lose, or to Vegas or Miami or Puerto Vallarta for friends' birthdays. And many international trips — from London where we did alllll the Harry Potter activities, to Japan where we ate incredible sushi, to Colombia to see Andres' hometown of Barranquilla, and many more. Oh, and we bought a house and adopted our beautiful dog Jake!
We’re both so happy to have reached this moment in our lives, with the support of our incredible friends and family. We couldn’t have done it without you all and we’re SO excited to celebrate with you.
