If you're flying in from out of town and have no plans on spending time in NYC, flying into Albany is your best best. The drive from Albany International Airport to the Catskill and Hudson Valley region is about an hour.
Flight
NYC has a few airports to choose from but if you're landing in NY and going straight upstate, we recommend flying into Newark airport to avoid the Queens/Brooklyn/Manhattan traffic.
Flight
If you intend to spend a bit of time in NYC before going upstate consider flying into one of these airports. If you intend to spend a bit of time in NYC after being upstate at our wedding, consider flying out of one of these airports.
Travel Note
There are so many options near Glen Falls House. Whether you want to stay somewhere other than Glen Falls House or are looking for things do to while you're in the area, there are countless options to stay at or check out. It's really up to what you're looking for and hoping to do across the weekend ! There are plenty of well-appointed Airbnb homes that will fulfill whatever aesthetic and accommodations you're looking for. There's also a slew of independent and chain hotels in every surrounding town to book rooms. We've heard Catskill is nice but have never personally been. The towns we adore in this area are Kingston, Saugerties, and Woodstock.
Travel Note
Kingston is our favorite town in this area. They have a great selection of cafes, restaurants, bars, and thrift + vintage shops. The Stockade Tavern, Rosie General, Dolce, Sorry Charlie, Mirador... the options are endless. The best, most impressive element of note about Kingston is the fact that Sojourner Truth was born here, and the courthouse in town is where she successfully fought to have her son released from slavery (it's believed she was the first formerly enslaved Black woman to do so). You can read more about Sojourner Truth through the link below.
Travel Note
You can't travel all this way and NOT witness the town that the iconic music festival is named after. Fun fact, the festival actually took place 60 miles south in Bethel, NY. But the town itself is full of hippie Boomers wearing lots of tie-dye, crystal shops, and peace signs. Woodstock is full of people who left NYC these days, so it's much more touristy than Kingston and Saugerties. We still like Woodstock though—it has a great Saturday flea market and more tasty restaurants (Good Night is top notch)... it's worth checking out !
Travel Note
This town is picturesque, friendly and quaint ! It's also quite progressive. It's great for hiking or spending time in its 161-acre nature preserve. One of our favorite places to visit, Opus 40, is nearby. We love Inquiring Mind bookstore, if you're a lover of books or a teacher we suggest checking it out. Bluestone Coffee Roasting has great coffee and the largest collection of Simpson figurines we've ever seen. Alleyway ice cream and Miss Lucy's Kitchen are worth mention, too.
