It was Labor Day weekend at Breach Inlet when John and Lindsey first crossed paths. The sandbar was full of people enjoying the festivities of the holiday weekend and they were joining in on the celebration surrounded by friends and strangers. It wasn’t long until John took notice of a girl in the water, a blue-eyed brunette with a cowgirl hat on. Lindsey, in typical fashion, was a standout in the crowd with her notoriously loud group of girls flocked around her. John knew he had to talk to her and with the help of some liquid courage, he did. The pair immediately hit it off and, as fate would have it, kept “accidentally” running into each other in unlikely places. “Why are you following me around?” Lindsey sassily asked John at a party. Little did she know, she was actually in his room. Unknowingly, this was the first of many weekends the two of them would spend together. And after some cheeky back and forth banter, Lindsey was instantly drawn to John’s persistence. Many, many dates later, Lindsey was headed to NYC for the weekend and needed a ride to the airport. John jumped at the opportunity, although her flight was at 6AM and an hour out of his way, and asked Lindsey if she wanted to be his girlfriend. After numerous trips, holidays spent, dogs purchased, and everything in between, they knew their meeting on Labor Day was no coincidence. Now the two are living in Charleston, where they originally met and can’t wait to tie the knot and start their happily ever after together!
Having a detective on his case, John knew that he had to get creative with his proposal plan. After consulting with his sister Janie, Mother, and Lindsey’s sister Lacy, he was able to come up with the perfect surprise on Lindsey’s favorite holiday, July 4th. This weekend was a very busy one due to the holiday and it being John’s Grandfather’s 85th Birthday. She would never suspect it. John and Lindsey woke up Sunday morning ready for a fun boat day with Janie and RJ before the Big 85th Birthday Bash that evening. They took the boat out to Winyah Bay to swim and enjoy the sunshine. Lindsey had no clue at the time, but all their closest friends and family were headed to Litchfield! While getting ready for the “Birthday Bash,” Lindsey started suspecting something was up when John was fretting about how he needed to wear a specific shirt and had left it at the boat landing. Luckily, Best Man – RJ Yellitz came to the rescue! Before dinner, the plan was to head to Stacy and Greg’s Pawleys Island house for a “Cocktail Hour.” Naturally, the men were ready before the women and headed that way with Janie and Lindsey following shortly behind them. Lindsey was unaware they were actually going to the proposal destination, a dock on the water, and upon arrival she was even more surprised to see John at the very end with a little box in his hand. She was instantly filled with joy and happiness, despite the long walk down. John bent down on one knee and of course before she could say yes, Lindsey shouted, “Put it on my finger!” From there, the newly engaged couple headed to The Swinks for the final surprise of a celebration with all their closest friends and family!
