We met online through Match.com. Our first date was at Lindsey's favorite restaurant, Tex Tubb's Taco Palace where we chatted for a few hours.
We visited Northern and Southern Ireland in June of 2017. One beautiful morning, we went out to the Dingle Peninsula to visit the ruins of an early Christian site, Kilmalkedar Church. In front of the church, was an ancient Ogham Stone. Erik explained to Lindsey that this stone had the first written language (Ogham) in Ireland inscribed on it, and that this stone in particular was special because it was a contract stone. At the top of the stone was a hole. Erik explained that two people would place their thumbs in the hole and speak out loud a contract and that it would be done. Erik had Lindsey place her thumb in the hole, did so likewise, and asked her to marry him. She agreed and it was done :) Erik tried to argue that this took the place of a wedding, as it was witnessed by the pre-Christian Gods, but Lindsey did not agree.
The rings were designed by an Irish designer, Brian de Staic, of the town of Dingle (very fitting, since the proposal took place there). They say "love and eternity" using the first Irish writing system that you find on Ogham Stones which are thousands of years old.
