Although Chase and I both graduated from the same high school, he is a few years older than me and our paths never really crossed. In 2013, I was college-bound and made my way to the UofA. Chase happened to be in Fayetteville too and I would see him around campus every now and then. He was even a Chi-O house boy during my freshman year! But once again, different years at school and other ambitions kept us from connecting. It was 2018 and I had been out of college for a year. Chase was in med school at UAMS in Little Rock and I was living back home trying to decide what my next move would be. One night, I went out to a local bar with a girlfriend and Chase was there. We started talking and completely forgot about our friends. We had a great time and I could not believe that we went to the same high school AND college and I was just now having a real conversation with him. At the end of the night, we went our separate ways and Chase realized that he forgot to ask for my number. He got my number from a mutual friend and for weeks we got to know each other that way. I’m not sure if I was nervous but for some reason, I had reservations about going on a "real" date with him. Thank goodness Chase was persistent and knew that we had a connection. In early August we were doing our normal texting back and forth and we ended up at the Promenade at Chenal at the same time. He convinced me to meet him at the Tavern, which happened to be the "local bar" where we first met. We both knew it was a date even though it wasn't said. I think that is all I needed to get over my nervousness of a "real" date because we had so much fun. After that night, I knew I had just met my best friend and future husband. Chase and I now live in Kansas City where he is a resident at Overland Park Regional Medical Center, and I am the Assistant Director at Primrose School of Blue Valley. We have two furbabies, Chief and Finley, and we cannot wait to become husband and wife.
Every summer my family vacations on 30A in Seaside, Florida. Lindsey was going to be with us this year and I knew that it would be a perfect place to ask her to marry me. I also knew that Lindsey would want her family there AND that she is very hard to surprise. I had to figure out how I was going to make it all happen without her getting suspicious. Our beach house was awesome. The owner was none other than the New Orleans Saint's head coach, Sean Payton! (Go Chiefs!) On the night of the proposal, we planned to go to dinner at Bud and Alley's. On our way to the restaurant, I remembered that I left my phone at the house. There is no better way to cover up suspicion than with annoyance. Which is what Lindsey was when we had to turn around and go back for my phone. When we got back to the house, I was really nervous. I was pretending to look for my phone everywhere and asked Lindsey to help me find it. At this point, she was beyond annoyed. I ran out to the third-floor balcony where everything was set up. With help from my mom and sister, the balcony of the beach house was all set. It was decorated with candles, string lights, rose petals, and tons of flowers. When Lindsey finally stormed up to the third floor, now angry instead of annoyed, she realized what was happening. She walked out onto the balcony and I was down on my knee. I was so happy that she said yes, but the surprise wasn't over. I grabbed her hand, and my phone, and we headed to Bud and Alley's for dinner. When we walked in BOTH of our families were standing and cheering. Lindsey was totally surprised and I was proud that I pulled it off. I can't wait until we say "I Do" in November.
