Eli and I had just flown into NYC for what I thought was a quick stop before we headed to Massachusetts for a Chiefs/Patriots football game and I was determined to see the infamous Rockefeller Christmas Tree. Eli and I began the trek toward Rockefeller Center. Feeling like little kids on Christmas morning, we began to push our way closer and closer to the 77 foot tall tree. Eli was determined to get me as close as possible to the thing that brought me so much excitement. Tonight was one of many nights that we would be side-by-side exploring something new together. After taking photos, I was excited to explore the rest of the city. Eli, however, said "Hey, let's take one more photo!". After six years of getting to know each other, learning the ins and outs of loving another person, forgiving, laughing, and growing together, I knew asking for a photo was out of character for Eli. Perplexed, I turned around to face him, and he got down on one knee. I lost it! Here I was in New York at Christmas time, and the love of my life was about to ask me to marry him! Eli looked at me with a huge grin that he couldn't wipe off his face. I, overcome with emotion, couldn't stop asking "What? Is this really happening!?". Finally I was quiet long enough for him to ask "Lindsey Ann Gregory, will you marry me?". My heart was overwhelmed with happiness, I said "YES!!!". He put the ring on my finger and I heard the crowd cheering. After several moments of us hugging and kissing, soaking up the moment that just changed our lives, Eli said, "So, we are spending the whole weekend in New York, no football game." It had been a ploy to keep the whole thing a surprise, and let me tell you, it worked! High on adrenaline, we walked around looking at the beautiful city (and I couldn't stop staring at the newly placed diamond on my left hand). Eli had made dinner reservations at a romantic little Italian restaurant and we spent hours just talking and planning the exciting changes to come.
